History
The city of Waverly, founded in 1836, is the second largest city in Morgan County, with nearly 1300 residents. Waverly is located 90 miles north of St. Louis, 210 miles south southwest of Chicago, and 30 miles southwest of Springfield.
Waverly Community Unit School District No. 6 is a public school district located in Waverly, Illinois. It has 362 students in grades PK, K-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1 in the Elementary School and 9 to 1 in the High School. There are 30 full-time teachers in the Waverly School District.
Both the Waverly Junior/Senior High and Elementary School are rated as commendable. Commendable – A school that has no underperforming student groups, a graduation rate greater than 67 percent.
Waverly is also the home of the Waverly Holiday Tournament (the best small school tournament in Illinois) for high school boy's basketball in December every year since 1951. This is the longest running Class 1A holiday basketball tournament in the state of Illinois.
