Facilities

Waverly Community Unit School District has two school buildings located on its campus. The Waverly High School, which serves grades 7 to 12, was first constructed in 1915. The High School was then rebuilt and remodeled in 1996. The Waverly Elementary building, which serves grades pre-K to 6, was first constructed in 1950, and most recently remodeled 1969 with a new addition. The Portable Mobile Unit constructed in 1999 and decommissioned in the later for 2000s for use, has been revitalized and again open. The mobile unit now houses the Administrative Office, to include the Superintendent, Bookkeeper, Technology staff, and a meeting space for meetings and professional development, allowing us to have more space in our schools for student learning and classrooms. The Bus Garage was built in 1998 and houses our Transportation Coordinator, Head of Maintenance, and drivers.

WCUSD #6 has been working with our Architect, Joe Petty, to maintain and improve our facilities. To increase student safety we have added a partial perimeter fence to keep our students, staff, and grounds safe. We have been completing building maintenance work such as tuck pointing, window replacement, and asbestos removal in the Elementary Building.  We have replaced the cafeteria ceiling, which has been falling down, and updated the lighting and moved the public address system so students and staff can better hear announcements. We are in the process of regrading the North Parking Lot to assist with mitigating water flow that has been entering the building during heavy rainfalls, accessibility to the building entrances, and correcting the surface imperfections. The outdoor classroom space was designed for an additional learning area, eating space, and a gathering location for the community. The Portable Mobile continues to be worked on to meet Health, Life, Safety codes for Schools. Lastly, the shed inside the Pre-K playground is getting a replacement shed to safely store pre-K materials.

We are currently in review of our 10 year plan to close out open projects. As we review our plan we are also working with the architect to develop a facilities maintenance plan. For example, we are working with the tradesmen to establish a 5-year tuckpointing plan to maintain the Elementary school building original brick work. We are addressing other areas of general maintenance such as window replacement, door replacement, resetting master locks, and security cameras. We are in the beginning stages of technology infrastructure work and are assessing the premises and internal systems.
